This rug is resistant to the damage of flying embers while protecting the surface underlying. The ember that pops out may char a spot on the hearth rug but the rug will not burn. GOW rugs meet the CPSC standard FF 1-70 for flammability of carpets. These rugs do not offer the protection of their fiberglass hearth rugs and would fall below the 100% wool rugs.
